Most of what Canadians know about Parliament and the world of politics comes to them directly or indirectly from the mass media.
Newspapers and television are the primary sources of political information. Radio and magazines are the secondary sources. Whatever medium we consume, there is no question that there will be a lot of information about politics and government. Although the media are not a branch of government, they are widely believed to have an enormous impact on how Parliament works. Governments and oppositions know that the media are watching, and that they can bring public attention as to how members of Parliament are doing their jobs.
